Reflecting on Labor Day Weekend
School may have already begun, but there is something about Labor Day Weekend that signals a pivot, a change of direction, or maybe it’s just the start of football season. And, although September never seems to bring relief from the heat, it still feels like something new is in the air.
During the summer it seems as if we have all the time in the world to get things done. But Autumn gives our commitments a more urgent frame. There never seems to be enough time. If it’s Labor Day, can Halloween be far behind? Then suddenly it’s Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Acknowledging how easy it is to be overcome by events, take a few minutes this Labor Day weekend and consider how you might be more intentionally active in supporting Saint Joan’s mission. To build up and sustain a church, it takes committed Christians who support, encourage and appreciate one another. It takes a community to grow a church.
So, along with all of your personal and professional responsibilities this fall, remember how Christ has called the community of Saint Joan of Arc to lift this church up, sharing the burden of living into the mission we all are called to do.
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
